Woke up feeling surprisingly well, went into the hotel for a shower then met in the lobby at 10.30 am. We set off for New York at 11.00 am, arrived at Coney Island High club in St Marks place a little late and missed soundcheck. There were two opening bands before Anti-Flag, who had a great show. I met my friend who I used to know when I lived here in the 1980’s and she hung out in the dressing room while we did a number of interviews. For the first time in my life I have been trying to drink a little beer. I’ve never acquired a taste for alcohol, but at some shows the choice was between beer or coke. I managed to finish half a bottle before drinking water. Charlie, on the other hand, was getting drunk again and was already acting like an idiot, by the time we got on stage he was plastered and ruined the gig for us. However the place was pretty packed and we went down ok.

After the show Charlie was acting like a 12 year old again and wouldn’t leave the club, even though everyone else was ready to go, and I wanted to spend some time with someone I’d not seen for years. We were staying at the St Maritz hotel on central park. After baby-sitting Charlie for a couple of hours we finally got away in the early hours of the morning. I shared a room with my friend but Charlie had passed out in the Shuttle. We just threw blankets over him and handed the keys to the Valet. Charlie spent the night in the underground car park.
