01. A Massive Return 02. Set List
|
I got up at 7 am to take care of a number of loose ends in
the office before finishing loading the equipment, while checking it out thoroughly, by 1
'o clock. Alvin, Charlie and Chick, (New Red Archives general manager), came back from the
cafe and we were ready to go to San Mateo to pick up Dave. Chick was going to lend a hand
on the first four dates as our roadie situation was as yet unresolved.Anti-Flag were still waiting for their van to be fixed at the garage so we set off with, myself driving, to Daves place. After picking a load of lemons from the trees outside his house, Dave took the wheel on the haul down to Bakersfield. Charlie seemed to be almost over the flu, but Alvin was still suffering. The club was a small long bar with open double doors at one side where the underage kids could watch from. This was a warm up show added at the last minute, there were no lights and no stage, but we were received enthusiastically despite the feeble PA giving out halfway through the set. We played a fairly shaky set but managed to finish without too many mistakes. Merchandise did brisk business even though Anti-Flag didnt make the show. We loaded up, which seemed to take forever, and went back to the promoters house in the suburbs. Charlie, Alvin, Dave & Chick slept in the house while I slept in the Shuttle, parked in the drive way, (mostly to avoid the cigarette smokers), at 3.45am
